Matthew Derbin

Matthew Derbin (BK ’18) is a Biomedical Engineering major. He believes in education as a way of giving people the tools to affect their own change as a sustainable method of healthy growth for societies. He works part time at a multi-branch hospital in Massachusetts and has engaged in medical outreach in rural Panama through the Volunteers Around the World organization, and has seen both the best and worst in medical care. He has helped establish and volunteer for community organizations for children, particularly those with disabilities, in his hometown. While at Yale, Matt is continuing to work with Volunteers Around the World to improve the resources available for future trips, and is a board member of the Students for Autism Awareness at Yale organization, which aims to provide social engagement in a safe environment for New Haven Public Schools students on the Autism spectrum.
