Joseph Cornett

Joseph Cornett (DC ’17) is a Psychology major with a pre-medical focus from Raleigh, North Carolina. He is particularly passionate about the mental and emotional health of people in disadvantaged communities and demographics. He specifically seeks to alleviate the stigma surrounding mental illnesses, expand access to community-based mental healthcare, and facilitate a global understanding of the need to care for mental and emotional wellbeing in our global and local communities. Joseph’s time working in hospitals in rural southwestern Kenya has strengthened his belief in the community’s ability to care for itself when it has adequate resources and infrastructure. His activities on campus include serving as a student representative on the Yale College Council, connecting students and resources as the Mental Health Awareness Chair for the Yale Public Health Coalition, and playing the piano for the Yale Gospel Choir.
